Laptop Keyboard Replacement
December 26th, 2007Up until a few weeks ago, I had never replaced a laptop keyboard. In the last month, I’ve had to replace two. One was a Dell latitude D600 that some guy dropped in his hotel room. The other was this one, my personal laptop:
It’s an Inspiron 9400. I thought that it needed some caffeine, so I poured some coke around the @ key. For some reason, I thought that you could just pop each individual key off, so I tried. Long story short, I completely broke the @ key.
It turns out that it’s really super-easy to replace the keyboard. Once you convince Dell that you need a replacement, you just use some sort of prying instrument to pry up the little slot on the right side:
It may help to lay the display all the way back, but once you get the little cover loosened, you can just pop it off like so:
Once that’s done, it’s pretty self explanatory. There are just two little screws at the top that you unscrew, and a little attachment underneath the keyboard that you detach. Put on the new keyboard, and you’re done:
Pretty easy job.
Quick Hits
December 22nd, 2007Firefox has just kicked IE’s ass so bad, IE8 will have to come out of the screen and perform oral sex on me in order for me to switch back. Seriously, who cares?
OMG LOL, REDDIT ALGORITHM LEAKED!!!
That’s pretty funny. Is it even possible to have a decent “community based popularity website” anymore? These fanboy morons are just taking over! RON PAUL! STEVE JOBS!!
These look really cool.
Burn Those Images!
December 21st, 2007Not the .jpg kind, but the .iso kind. I use a very nice application called ImgBurn to burn my images. ImgBurn is free, and it also has a sense of humor. Earlier tonight I was trying to burn a CD with a bad CD, and I hit the cancel button. Nothing happened for a minute, so I hit the cancel button again. Up came this error:
Also, if the burn operation fails, you get a funny sounding woman’s voice saying very loud, “Ohhhh Noooooo!” So, the next time you’ve got an image to burn, try using ImgBurn!
Windows Vista/Telnet
December 20th, 2007Have you found yourself with your fresh new installation of Vista, and noticed that your telnet was MIA? Here’s how you fix it:
Have a look in Control Panel/Programs and Features. In the left margin, you’ll see a link to “Turn Windows features on or off”. You’ll see telnet in the list. Give it a click, and you’re on your way!
